Troubleshooting Tips

Some of the causes which can be solved by troubleshooting tips. The symptoms include the following:

1. Washing the Ice Bin – The receptacle of the ice is the ice bin. A long period of ice making makes it also dirty and moldy resulting in the nasty taste of the ice. To put the taste right you need to take the bin out and have it washed. If you do not know where the ice bin is located you can refer to your owner’s instruction manual to make it easy for you to locate.

From its location inside the refrigerator you have to unscrew or unclip the ice bin and wash it with warm soapy water. After it is thoroughly cleaned have it dried before you reassemble it then place it back to the Frigidaire and check it if you have surely solved the problem.

2. Stored Old Food-Old food stored in the refrigerator can also be a cause of ice bad taste discolors. Do not store food for a longer period of time in the refrigerator. If there is an old food stored take it out and wash all of the shelves. This will completely clean the refrigerator and remove the bad smell before returning the shelves back. When your ice making is already on, recheck it if the same smell affect you.

3. Flushing the Supply Line – Water is brought to the ice maker through a supply line. There may be an instance when what is supplied from the source is not a fresh water. The supplied water could cause undesirable taste of the ice so you need to flush out the pipe with fresh clean water and cure the problem. Even if the supply line has already been cleaned, check it again if the new water running through has changed and deserves to be used for ice making.

4. Test the Water Inlet Valve – The location of the water inlet valve is somewhere of the Frigidaire. From here, locate the water supply line providing water into the valve and turn it off. Damage or breakage in the water inlet valve could cause bad taste because the water may be exposed to bad smell inside the refrigeration and affects the taste of the ice. This problem can be cured with a replacement of the water inlet valve if need be. You can also disconnect the supply line from the valve itself but see to it that you have a container which will catch the water possibly to spill out. Then you need to remove the screw and at the same time secure the inlet valve in proper place.

The inlet valve is connected by wires. Before disconnecting the wires you need to take care by avoiding putting too much pressure as they are connected to the terminals with slip on connectors. These connectors and terminals are susceptible to corrosion which can cause ice bad taste and discolor. If they connectors are corroded, you have to replace them to bring back the ice made into good taste.

5. Replacing the Water – Water intended for ice may run through the supply line and source with particles and bad smells. These particles are tiny and may not be noticeable to the eye. So there is a water filter installed inside your refrigerator to take care of the passage of these particles. When it is already worn, you should replace it with a new one so that it will eliminate bad taste and discolor of the ice. But the replacement filter should be that one which is suitable to your freezer’s model and type otherwise an incorrect filter will not help solve the problem.

6. Supply Line FilterYour ice maker should also be fitted with a supply line filter. It if does not have yet, you need to fit one for it as this could greatly help reduce or eliminate possible bad taste and discolor of the ice being made. Unlike the water filter inside the refrigerator, the supply line filter fits virtually to any freezer model and type.
